Christian Dior Designer of Dreams

Capturing the best of the Victoria and Albert Museum's major exhibition, Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams, this stunning book celebrates the House of Dior from its founding in 1947 to the present day.

2017 marks the 70th anniversary of the House of Dior. In 1947, Christian Dior presented his first collection, launching a new silhouette for women's fashion.

Seventy of the most memorable designs created by Christian Dior and his followers - Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri - have been carefully selected for this book. These models are captured in fascinating photographs that show every detail. In addition, designs, show photos and fashion images from the world's greatest fashion photographers are also featured, including Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, William Klein, Helmut Newton, Patrick Demarchelier, Paolo Roversi, Peter Lindbergh, Mario Testino and Nick Knight.

Recurring themes from Dior's history are explored in detail: the concept of line and architecture in fashion, the influence of history and art (Palace of Versailles, Empire style, Impressionism, Belle Époque, Russian Ballet, Picasso, Dali, Pollock), the use of color, inspiration from gardens and landscapes, and of course the brand's muses and famous clients: Duchess of Windsor, Marlene Dietrich, Princess Grace of Monaco, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Isabelle Adjani, Princess Diana, Marion Cotillard, Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman, Jennifer Lawrence and others.
